Joseph Schwarz

Joseph P. Schwarz, 84, a lifelong Wakefield resident died on Saturday, January 17 at his residence.

Born in Wakefield on March 10, 1930 he was the son of the late Vera N. (Dinan) Schwarz.

Mr. Schwarz was a graduate of Wakefield High School, Class of 1947 and was co-captain of the 1947 Wakefield Baseball Team that played at Fenway Park in Boston. He had worked for Local 33 Carpenters Union in Boston, Schofield Foundation in Wakefield for 25 years and had retired as a custodian for the Lexington Public School System. Mr. Schwarz had served in the United States Army during the Korean War and was awarded the Purple Heart. He was a member of both the Wakefield V.F.W. and also the Wakefield Elks.

Mr. Schwarz was the husband of the late Charlotte M. (Doucette) Schwarz. He is survived by his three sons; Joseph P. Schwarz, Jr. of Wakefield, Thomas J. Schwarz and his wife Renee of Seabrook, NH and William A. Schwarz of VA, his three daughters; Maureen P. Burgess and her husband Neil, Karen M. Broderick and Vicki M. Crockett all of Wakefield, his four sisters; Marie Trujillo of NH, Cory, Gail & Bonnie all of CT, his ten grandchildren; Daniel, Jessica, Thomas & Michael Schwarz, Kristine & Ashley Burgess, Katie & Joseph Crockett, Jason Campbell & Ryan Brazell. Mr. Schwarz is also survived by 3 great grandchildren.

His funeral will be held from the McDonald Funeral Home, 19 Yale Ave on Wednesday at 9am followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Joseph Church, 173 Albion St, Wakefield at 10am. Visitation for relatives and friends will be held at the Funeral Home on Tuesday from 5-8pm. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Society, P.O. Box 417005, Boston, MA 02241.
