Joseph Tine Jr ., a lifelong resident of Reading, died at his home on Wednesday, January 9th.
He was born in Reading on April 30, 1925 and was the son of the late Joseph and Nancy (Cincotta) Tine .
Joseph was a graduate of Reading High School class of 1943. He was a Marine Combat Veteran of WWII, serving in Okinawa and China. He retired from Dominic Zanni & Sons after working for four decades as a heavy equipment operator. A former long-time Deacon at the First Baptist Church of Wilmington, he lived by his strong faith in God, which guided him through the final days of his life. For years, he enjoyed escaping the New England winters with his family at their vacation home in Zephyrhills, Florida. Joseph loved golf, and played the game well into his 80's, when he belonged to a senior men's league. He was an avid reader-averaging 6 books a month-and enjoyed jigsaw puzzles, sudoku, and caring for his cats.
He was the beloved husband of the late Thelma P. (Long) Tine . Joseph was the loving father of Patricia A. Durfee of Reading. He is also survived by his granddaughter Kristen McBride and her husband Jon and great granddaughter Kaelen McBride of Burlington, VT.
His funeral service will be held at the McDonald-Finnegan Funeral Home, 322 Main St., Stoneham on Monday at 11 a.m. Visitation for relatives and friends will be held at the funeral home on Monday Prior to the funeral from 10-11 a.m. Interment will be private.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Calvary Christian Church, 47 Grove St., Lynnfield, MA 01940.
