Josephine P. Day, 95 of Reading, formerly of Stoneham died Sunday February 1, at the Peregrine Landing in Tewksbury.
Born in Clare Morris, County Mayo, Ireland on May 30, 1919 she was the daughter of the late John and Delia (Morley) Prendergast.
Josephine was raised in Clare Morris in Ireland and moved to Cambridge, MA at the age of 23. She lived in Stoneham from 1953 to 1982 before moving to Reading. She was a former clerk for Gilchrist's and Caldor at the Redstone Shopping Center. Josephine had a great sense of humor, was an outstanding cook and an avid gardener. She was a longtime member of St. Patrick Parish.
Josephine was the wife of the late Edward F. Day and is survived by her 3 children; Edward J. Day and his wife Debbie of Tewksbury, John V. Day and his wife Terry of Portsmouth, NH, and Claire Day Barry and husband James of Bedford, NH. She is also survived by 9 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Josephine was preceded in death by her 4 siblings; Mary Cleary, John Prendergast, Celia Morley, and Geoffrey Prendergast.
A funeral mass will be celebrated in St. Patrick Church, 71 Central St., Stoneham on Friday at 10 a.m. A visitation for relatives and friends will be held at the McDonald-Finnegan Funeral Home, 322 Main St., Stoneham on Friday prior to the mass from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. Interment, Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford.
