Joyce Maher

Joyce L. (Whiting) Maher, 86, of Wakefield died August 26 at the Melrose-Wakefield Hospital.

Born in Everett on April 3, 1929, she was the daughter of the late John W. and Grace E. (Mahoney) Whiting.

Joyce was raised and educated in Malden and was a resident of Wakefield. She loved to laugh with family and friends and loved life. Joyce enjoyed listening to music and caring for her plants on her sunporch. She enjoyed walking in the mall, making Christmas crafts, and loved having her family gathered around her.

Joyce was the life-long partner and wife of the late Douglas J. Maher Sr. She was the beloved mother of Douglas J. Maher Jr. and wife Kay of Albany, GA., Cynthia Rendell and husband Kenneth of Paisley FL., Nancy Cormier and husband Glenn of Stoneham and Donna Lane and husband Thomas of Wilmington. She was the sister of Chester Whiting of PA, Nancy Ann Taylor of Danvers, and the late Peter Whiting, Shirley Barrett, and Joan Moore. She was the loving grandmother of Jamie Rendell, Candace McNair, Lacey Maher, Meghan Tamburrini, Hannah Cormier, Stephanie Penta, Joseph Lane. She was the grandmother of the late Michael Rendell and the late David Sadler. She was the great-grandmother of Gillian, Jacqueline, and Mack McNair, Joseph and Emily Lane, and Ava Tamburrini.

Her funeral will be held from the McDonald Funeral Home, 19 Yale Ave Wakefield Monday starting at 9am followed by a funeral mass at Most Blessed Sacrament at 10 o' clock. Visitation for relatives and friends will be held Sunday from 2-5pm. Interment will be Puritan Lawn Memorial Park, Peabody.
