J. Phyllis Skyrme, 87, of Wakefield died in the evening on Monday, March 15 at the Kirkwood Nursing Home in Wakefield.
Born in Vancouver, British Columbia on August 24, 1922 she was the daughter of the late George W. and Ada L. (Cripps) Skyrme.
She was raised in Sussex, New Brunswick, Canada. As a teenager Phyllis and her mother moved to Somerville, where she graduated from Somerville High School and Mass. College of Pharmacy. She worked for many years as a chemist for the Federal Food and Drug Administration. On retiring she lived in Falmouthport on Cape Cod and a few years later she returned to live in Wakefield in a home that she and an architect designed.
She is survived by her husband John H. Newman of Wakefield, NH and her cousin Nelson Cripps of Brockton.
Relatives, friends and neighbors may call at the McDonald Funeral Home, 19 Yale Ave., Wakefield on Monday, March 22 from 6 to 8 p.m. followed by a funeral service at 8 p.m. Interment will be private.
