Karl Frank Ritz of Lynnfield, 90, passed away at Union Hospital in Lynn, MA on March 4, 2011. He was born on December 11, 1920 in his family home on Apple Avenue in Toledo OH. His parents, Frank and Walda, had three children: Elise Laurich who lives in Twinbrook, OH, Karl , and Frank, who was killed in the final days of WWII.

Karl spent his young life in Toledo, graduated from Libby High School and later attended the University of Toledo. He met the love of his life, Phyliss Jane Hutchisson, married in 1944 and on March 7, 2011 they would have been married 67 years.

Karl Leaves behind his devoted wife and four loving children: Connie Stern and her husband Michael, Nancy Ritz , Craig Ritz and his wife Kris, and Barbara Ritz; nine loving grandchildren: Joshua, Justin and Jonathan Ritz , David, Craig and Richard Moreton, Shoshana, Daniel and Judith Stern. In addition he leaves behind six great-grandchildren: Jaden, Joshua, Jared, Jersey, Tyler and Ashton Ritz .

Karl was a devoted aviator. He was a flight instructor at Tri-State Airport in Angola, Indiana. He flew with the U.S. Navy in World War II and again in the Korean conflict. He flew for Pan American, Northeast Airlines and then with Delta Airlines until his retirement in 1980. He was a Captain, a mentor and an aviation safety expert. He will be greatly missed by his loving family and friends.
