Kathleen Ann Cail, 67, passed away unexpectedly on June 19, 2019. Born on March 25, 1952 she was the fourth of six children of Glenn and Margretta Hobart. Graduating from Arlington, MA High School in 1970 she began working as an operator for Bell Telephone and was later promoted to outside sale representative for then AT&T.
She met the love of her life, Bobby Cail, and they married on April 7, 1990. They soon welcomed a son Ryan, raising him in Stoneham, MA. When Ryan went off to school, Kathy began work as a secretary at his elementary school, the South School in Stoneham. Finding real joy in working with children, she later became a certified preschool teacher at Creative Corner School in Winchester, MA. Retiring in March of this year, she continued to keep in touch with her pupils and their families. Kathy's other love was for dogs and she was excited to adopt a new rescue, "Jack," who usually could be found sitting in her lap.
Kathy was a strong woman who had weathered numerous hardships. She lost her mother at the age of 11 and within four years, both of her brothers died; Billy by drowning and Stevie in Vietnam. More recently, she supported her husband through 18 months of Stage 4 Glioblastoma treatment. She was able, with the help of her son, her sisters and hospice, to honor her husband's greatest wish - to die with dignity at home.
Kathy loved to travel and visit both Washington, DC and the Grand Canyon on recent excursions. But, her best trips remain to Hampton Beach, NH where she vacationed with her extended family for many years.
She was preceded by her husband, Robert Cail; her brothers, Glenn Hobart III and William Hobart; and her parents.
She is survived by her son, Ryan Cail; her step children, Christopher Cail and Kelly Cail; and her sisters, Susan Holman, Joan Fair, and Maryellen Enwright.
She will be remembered for her kind and generous heart, her infectious laugh, and her collections of gnomes.
Visitation for relatives and friends will be held at the McDonald-Finnegan Funeral Home, 322 Main St., Stoneham on Friday from 4-7pm.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to American Brain Tumor Association, Attn: Donations, 8550 W. Bryn Mawr Ave. Ste 550, Chicago, IL 60631.
