Lafleur Etienne, age 78, of Stoneham, formerly of Somerville, passed away on September 26 at the Mount Auburn Hospital in Cambridge.
Born in Port-de-Paix, Haiti on June 7, 1946 he was the son of the late Dieusper Etienne and Odilie (Anofils) Etienne.
Lafleur was raised in Haiti and educated in Spain. He had been a preacher in Haiti before moving to the United States in 1978 and making his home in Somerville. He loved to work in his community and was very involved in the Somerville public schools and was past president of the PTA. He was also very involved in his church, St. Ann Catholic Church of Somerville. He had worked as a chemist for the MWRA for more than 37 years before his retirement.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Mona (Ulysse) Etienne; his loving daughters, Marie Flore Etienne of Stoughton and Stephanie Etienne of Stoneham; his adopted daughter Kicora L. Watson of Georgia; his cherished grandchildren, Gabrielle Etienne, Danielle Rose Etienne, and Joseph Alan Etienne; his great-granddaughter, Genevieve; and his sister, Dieuvina Thervil of Florida and his brother, Wanel Etienne of Florida ; as well as many nieces and nephews.
A visitation for relatives and friends will be held at the McDonald Funeral Home, 19 Yale Ave., Wakefield on Saturday, October 5 from 10:30am-1:30pm.
