Lawrence O'Brien

Lawrence M. O'Brien of Wakefield, well known local sports writer and enthusiast died March 9. He was 89 years of age. Born in Brookline on December 17, 1919 he was the son of the late John & Theresa (O'Toole) O'Brien. Larry was raised in Reading and graduated from Reading High School in 1937. He later served in the Army Air Corp. during W.W. II. He was a long time employee of the Wakefield Daily Item and worked there as a printer and also was the writer of TeePee Topics and Pioneer Topics chronicling the high school sports in both Wakefield and Lynnfield, a passion of his for many years. He was also a committee member of the Wakefield High School Sports Hall of Fame as well as many other sporting related activities of Wakefield.

Larry was the husband of the late Ruth B. (Messina). He was the father of Robin L. Brown of Thornton, NH, Gail D. Levorson of Albert Lea, MN, David A. O'Brien of Salem, NH and Lawrence M. "Chip" O'Brien of Wakefield. He was the brother of Frank O'Brien of Walpole, Pat Connell of Needham, Maureen McNeil of Norwood and the late Thomas, John, Benny, James & Vincent O'Brien. He was the grandfather of Lindsey, Matthew, David, Sean, & Megan and great grandfather of Isabella & Madysen.

His funeral service will be held in the Pinewood Lutheran Church 24 Wilmington Rd. Burlington on Friday at 11:00. Visitation at the McDonald Funeral Home 19 Yale Ave. Wakefield will be Thursday 4-8 PM. Interment will be at Woodlawn Cemetery in Everett.
