Leo P. Doherty, Sr., 87, a long time Stoneham resident passed away at the Exeter Hospital in Exeter, N.H. on Saturday June 23.
Born in Everett on June 14, 1925, he was the son of the late Roger and Margaret (McLaughlin) Doherty.
Mr. Doherty was a graduate of Everett High School. After high school, he entered the U.S. Navy and had served his country during WW II. In 2010, he moved to New Hampshire. A handyman who enjoyed carpentry, Leo spent much of his time building and fixing things around the house. Mr. Doherty was a member of the VFW Lt. Norman Prince Post and was a retired printer for Alden Press. Leo enjoyed spending time with his family and his friends.
Mr. Doherty was the husband of Josephine C. (Brown) Doherty. He was the father of Leo P. Doherty, Jr. and his wife Genelle and Charlene D. Frezza and her husband Dario all of Atkinson, NH and Patricia Sparks and her husband Scott of Guilford, VT. Leo was the brother of the late Alfred and Roger Doherty and Margaret Sullivan. He was the grandfather of Devon, Dillon, Brendan, Brianna, Fiona and step-grandson Jared. Mr. Doherty is also survived many nieces and nephews.
His funeral will be held from the McDonald – Finnegan Funeral Home, 322 Main St, Stoneham on Wednesday at 9:00 A.M. followed by a funeral mass in St. Patrick Church, 73 Central St. Stoneham at 10 o'clock. A period of visitation will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday from 4 – 8 P.M. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 30 Speen St. Framingham, MA 01701.
Interment will be at Puritan Lawn Memorial Park in Peabody.
