Lydia Labadini

Lydia E. Labadini, age 97, of Woburn, formerly of Somerville and Medford, died Friday, June 28 at the Winchester Nursing Home with her family by her side.

Born in Newton on April 15, 1922 she was the daughter of the late Pasquale and Civita (Greco) DiVasta.

Mrs. Labadini was raised and educated in Somerville. She left school early to start working and support her family. She was very successful as an employee at Stride Rite. She loved to cook and to feed people -- Italian cuisine being her one and only specialty. She also loved music and dancing; if music was playing, she was moving to it. Early in their relationship, Mrs. Labadini and her late husband enjoyed traveling, especially a couple of vacations to Italy. However, they found great joy in day and weekend trips all over New England when their family was young. Mrs. Labadini also enjoyed hosting Christmas Eve celebrations at her home.

She was the beloved wife of the late Francis J. Labadini, with whom she shared 70 years of marriage. She was the loving mother of Sheila F. Labadini of Woburn, Diane Gioioso of Woburn, Janet Palumbo and her husband Gene of Wells, ME, Nancy Frenzo and her husband Nick of Reading, and Francis J. Labadini and his wife Lisa of Salem, NH. She was the sister of Salvatore DiVasta of Somerville and the late Esther Goodwin and Joseph DiVasta. She is also survived by her nine grandchildren: Kim, Michael, Kristen, Nicole, Natasha, Nicholas, Jenna, Devin, and Dana; and eight great grandchildren.

Her Funeral will be held from the McDonald-Finnegan Funeral Home, 322 Main St., Stoneham on Monday at 9am followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Patrick Church, 71 Central St., Stoneham at 10am. Interment to follow at Woodbrook Cemetery in Woburn. Visitation for relatives and friends at the Funeral Home on Sunday from 1-5pm.
