Madeline J. Kirmes, 90, of Wakefield died on Thursday April 21 at the Life Care of Stoneham Assisted Living facility.
She was born on June 4, 1920 to Salvatore and Julia (Longo) LoFaro in Wakefield. She attended Wakefield Schools and was a lifelong resident of the town. She lived for 90 years in the same house that she was born in before moving to Life Care in January of this year.
Her husband of 60 years, Victor C. Kirmes, preceded her in death in 2003. Prior to her marriage she taught piano and after marriage was a homemaker raising five children. She enjoyed cooking and spending time with her large family. Mrs. Kirmes was a communicant of St. Florence Church in Wakefield.
Her family includes her children, Carolyn Taylor and her husband Bill of Hooksett, NH; Dr. William Kirmes and his wife Doreen Hamblett of Manchester, NH; Victor Kirmes and his wife Eleanor of Sunnyvale, CA, Julia Laverty and her husband Paul of Melrose and Joseph Kirmes and his wife Eileen Mullen of Stoneham; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Grace Bushee; many nieces and nephews and a beloved cousin, Viola Cocullo of Lynn. She was predeceased by her brothers, Vito and Joseph LoFaro.
A funeral will be held from the McDonald Funeral Home, 19 Yale Ave., Wakefield on Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. followed by a funeral mass in St. Florence Church, 47 Butler Ave., Wakefield at 11:30 a.m. A period of visitation will be held at the funeral home on Monday from 4 to 8 p.m. Interment will be at Forest Glade Cemetery in Wakefield.
