Madeline Makson

Madeline "Marge" Makson, 85, who lived in New York City, Riverhead, New York and for the last six years in Peabody, died on Tuesday October 26th at the Renaissance Gardens of Brooksby Village.

Born in New York City on December 5th, 1924, she was the only daughter of Jan and Mary (Potaczala) Pierog's five children.

Marge was a graduate of Washington Irving High School in New York. She married the love of her life, Walter "Whitey" Makson, on January 27th 1946. They raised three sons.

Marge would tell you she made it to The Great White Way right out of high school, as an elevator operator at 120 Broadway. She always added it was a job that had its ups and downs.

Marge also worked as a waitress where she served up lunch and laughs to her devoted customers. She then joined the North Fork Bank on Long Island working in the check department. Her engaging personality allowed her to cash in on friendships that lasted the rest of her life.

In describing herself, Marge would say her real job was to help brighten a person's day with a joke. She made everyone who met her smile.

Marge was the mother of Bob Makson of Riverhead, NY, Stan Makson of Wilton, CT and Don Makson of Wakefield, MA. She was the mother-in-law of the late Nancy Makson, Amy and Jane Makson. She was the grandmother of Karen, Amanda, David, Scott, Rachel and Taylor Makson. She was the great-grandmother of Morgan and Jake – and she would point out the "great" was a fact as well as a title.

Visiting hours for Marge Makson will be held at the McDonald Funeral Home, 19 Yale Ave., Wakefield on Friday between 4-8PM. A funeral Mass will celebrate her life on Saturday at noon at the Chapel of Brooksby Village, 202 Brooksby Village Drive in Peabody.

In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Boston Medical Center Cancer Care Unit, Office of Development, 801 Mass Ave. 1st Flr. Boston, MA 02118.
