Family matriarch known for endearing love of family and friends
Madeline Doris Roache known affectionately as "Dolly" , 86, of Wakefield enter the kingdom of God on January 21 with her loving family by her side. Dolly born in Wakefield on April 7, 1929 was the daughter of the late Dan and Stella (Raffael) Marino.
Dolly raised in Swampscott, was a 1948 graduate of Swampscott High School. Her legacy was the naming of the Swampscott High School year book, The Seagull, which remains the same today. Through the introduction of her late cousin, Charles Raffael, she met her husband of 52 years, the late Theodore (Ted) L. Roache Jr. Her center of life was her endearing love she had for her family and friends. What made her most proud was her unselfish gift that she gave to them. She was extremely proud of her Italian heritage, traditions and travels to Italy. Dolly was at her happiest during family gatherings, as this brought her the most joy.
Known for her warm, generosity and unwavering faith, she was loved by everyone who knew her. Dolly will be remembered as a dedicated wife, mother and Nonnie. Over the course of her life time, she was employed with General Electric Payroll (Lynn), Wakefield Public School System(WHS cafeteria) and Addison Wesley. She was a member of St. Joseph's Church, Sons of Italy, Red Hats Society, and Beverly Lunch Bunch. She had a zest for life, passion for shopping, and incredible sense of fashion, always being known for going all out for the "new look".
She is survived by loving her sister and best friend Clara (Marino) Grimes and her husband Robert of Swampscott, her devoted daughters Marie Theodora Roache and her husband William McCarthy of Bedford, Stellanne Ames and her husband Paul Ames of Billerica; and two cherished granddaughters Alexia Madelene and Giavanna Theodora Ames. She is also survived by a nephew (godchild) Dan Grimes and his wife Val Grimes, niece (godchild) Karen Gronberg and niece Diane Reid as well as great nieces and nephew.
The family would like to express their deepest thanks to the doctors and staff at Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital and especially Peter Zimetbaum, MD for their excellent care and support.
Her funeral will be held from the McDonald Funeral Home, 19 Yale Ave., Wakefield on Wednesday at 9 a.m. followed by a funeral mass in St. Joseph Church, 173 Albion St., Wakefield at 10 o'clock. Visitation for relatives and friends will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday from 4-8 p.m.
Interment, Forest Glade Cemetery, Wakefield.
