Marcia Loomis Calvin , 81, of Wakefield, Massachusetts (formerly of Simsbury, CT), died peacefully on Friday, February 21st, at her home.
Born in Elkhart, Indiana, on February 6th, 1933, she was the daughter of Peter Burr Loomis , III, and Kathryn (Thompson) Loomis . The family soon moved to Birmingham, Michigan, where Peter worked as an engineer in the automobile industry, and Kathryn became a civic leader. In 1946, Marcia was the winner of the Detroit Metropolitan Spelling Bee and a contestant in the National Spelling Bee. After graduating from Swarthmore College in 1954, she served as a legal secretary, first at Harvard Law School, then in Washington, D.C., and later in Leicester, England.
