Margaret George

Margaret S . "Rita" George , 100, of Wakefield died on Sunday, January 29 at her residence.

Born in Dundee, Scotland on April 23, 1911 she was the daughter of the late James Smith of Kirkland, Scotland and Jane (Mitchell) Smith of Dundee, Scotland. Mrs. George was predeceased by her husband Francis E. George .


When she was a young girl, Mrs. George moved to the United States and grew up in Washington D.C. She subsequently moved to the Boston area and had remained there, living in Wakefield for the past 38 years. For more than 70 years, Rita was active in Church Choirs and for the last 30 years was active in the choir at the First Parish Congregational Church. She was also a Deaconess of this Church. Mrs. George had served on numerous voluntary positions in the church and also for the Red Cross, Salvation Army and Rosie's Place.

A funeral service will be held on Friday at the First Parish Congregational Church, 1 Church St, Wakefield at 11am. Visitation will be held at the church prior to the service starting at 10am. Interment will be at Blue Hill Cemetery in Braintree.
