Maria Casallas

Maria E. "Yayita" Casallas , 94, of Malden died Wednesday, March 9, 2016 at Glen Ridge Nursing Home in Malden.

Born in Colombia, February 14, 1922 she was the daughter of the late Jose and Marcina (Castanda) Sanchez.

Maria was raised in Colombia. She would visit America often before moving to Malden Permanently in 1983. She was very proud of the fact that she became a United States Citizen in 1989. She was a member of the Immaculate Conception Church in Malden. Maria loved to shop, go to Dunkin Donuts and get her hair done. She was an avid walker, and enjoyed spending her spare time with her large extended family.

She was the beloved wife of the late Campo E. Casallas . She was the loving mother of Hernando Casallas and wife Cecilia of Wakefield, Alicia Casallas of Malden, Blanca Ardati and husband Abdul of Stoneham, Maria Stella Casallas and husband Victor of Miami, FL, and Campo E. Casallas and wife Marie of Malden. She was the sister of Naty Rios of Orlando, FL. She is also survived by her 15 loving grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral from the McDonald-Finnegan Funeral Home, 322 Main St., Stoneham on Tuesday at 9 a.m. followed by a Funeral Mass in the Immaculate Conception Church, 600 Pleasant St., Malden at 10 o'clock. Visitation for relatives and friends will be held at the Funeral Home on Monday 4 to 8 p.m.
