Maria Serrano

Maria Serrano, age 94, of Stoneham, formerly of Somerville, died Monday, February 27 at the Winchester Hospital.

Born in Augusta, Italy on September 3, 1922 she was the daughter of the late Dominic and Maria (DiLuciano) Pasqua.

Maria was raised and educated in Italy. She had worked as a school teacher in Italy before moving to the United States in 1952. She first settled in the West End of Boston before moving to Somerville and eventually settling in Stoneham where she was a member of the Senior Center, Sons of Italy and St. Patrick Parish. She had many passions, including: knitting, bowling, animals, Bingo and trips to Foxwoods and Vegas. Above all, Maria enjoyed spending time with her family; she was very proud of all of her grandchildren.

She was the mother of Dick R. Serrano and his wife Barbara of Stoneham, Dennis C. Serrano and his wife Debora of Wakefield, Susan Zarozny and her husband Wayne of Westboro, and the late Anthony J. Serrano. She was the sister of Josephine Patti of Winchester. She was the grandmother of Christopher Serrano and his wife Lauren, Jennifer Serrano, Justin Zarozny, Brittany DelBuono Zarozny and her husband Daniel DelBuono, and Christina Serrano.

Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated in St. Patrick Church, 71 Central St., Stoneham on Thursday at 10am. Interment to follow at St. Patrick Cemetery, Stoneham. Visitation for relatives and friends at the McDonald-Finnegan Funeral Home, 322 Main St., Stoneham prior to the mass beginning at 8am.
