Marie F. Burke, 72, of Stoneham died on Wednesday, January 26 at the Brigham & Women's Hospital in Boston.
Born in Somerville on February 15, 1938 she was the daughter of the late Charles and Julia McCarthy.
Mrs. Burke had been a Stoneham resident for the past 45 years. She was a graduate of St. Joseph High School in Somerville, Class of 1955. Mrs. Burke had retired in 2000 from the Woburn National Bank as a Proof Operator. She was a member of St. Patrick's Parish in Stoneham. In January of 2004 Mrs. Burke was part of medical history at Brigham & Women's Hospital as being 1 of 5 recipients for Lung Transplant. It was the nations first quintuple Lung Transplant in just 36 hours.
She is survived by her husband John "Jack" J. Burke, Sr., her three sons; Michael Burke and John J. Burke Jr. both of Woburn, Stephen Burke and his wife Lisa of Chicago, IL, her daughter Maureen Burke and her husband Sean Cashell of Winchester, her six grandchildren; Kerry, Brian, Connor and Caitlin Burke and Sean and Michael Cashell and her brother Charles McCarthy of Somerville. Mrs. Burke was predeceased by her three sisters; Kathleen Moore, Anne McCarthy and June McCarthy.
Her funeral will be held from the McDonald-Finnegan Funeral Home, 322 Main St, Stoneham on Monday at 9am followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Patrick's Church 71 Central St, Stoneham at 10 o'clock. Visitation for relatives and friends will be held at the funeral home on Sunday from
1-5pm. Interment will be at Lindenwood Cemetery in Stoneham.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contribution may be made to the Lung Transplant Clinic at Brigham & Women's Hospital, 75 Francis St, Boston, MA 02155.
