Marie Joyce

Marie F. (Malloy) Joyce quietly passed away on December 20, 2016 at the golden age of 96 with her devoted daughter at her side.

Marie was the last surviving sibling of the Malloy Family of Cambridge, MA. She was preceded in death by her sister Mary Cerone and her brothers: Marty, Tim, John, and Frank. In her youth, Marie "Tootsie" Malloy was a professional soft ball player for the Boston Olympets. The team was part of the inspiration for the movie; "A League of Their Own."

Marie was the wife of the late John J. Joyce and had resided in Wakefield for the last 70 years. She was employed by the Gallahue's Super Market until her retirement and was a long time parishioner of the Most Blessed Sacrament Church in Greenwood.

Marie was adored by all for her Irish charm, wit and humility.

She is survived by her loving daughter, Marie (Joyce) Duncan and her husband Jim of York Beach, ME and her son, John "Jay" Joyce of Delray Beach, FL and Cape Neddick, ME. She will be dearly missed by her granddaughter Kellie (Joyce) Spinney and her husband David of Newbury, NH. She is also survived by the joys in her life, her great grandchildren: Nina and Alex Spinney, as well as dear nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her beloved daughter-in-law Kathleen (Murphy) Joyce.

Her Funeral will be held from the McDonald Funeral Home, 19 Yale Ave., Wakefield on Wednesday at 10am followed by a Funeral Mass celebrated in Most Blessed Sacrament Church, 1155 Main St., Wakefield at 11am. Interment to follow at Forest Glade Cemetery in Wakefield. Visitation for relatives and friends at the Funeral Home on Tuesday from 4-8pm.

In recognition of Marie's love for the Boston Red Sox, donations in lieu of flowers may be made in Marie's name to the Red Sox charitable partner, The Jimmy Fund, "Memorial Gifts," PO Box 849168, Boston, MA 02284-9168.
