Marie T. McDermott

Marie T. McDermott, age 90 of Stoneham, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 12 at the Care Dimensions Hospice House-Lincoln. 

She was born in Chelsea on August 19, 1934 and was the daughter of the late Daniel and Mary (Doherty) Murray. She was also preceded in death by her seven siblings.

She was the beloved wife of 49 years to the late Charles McDermott. She was the loving and dedicated mother of Ann Marie Lipetzky and her husband Ed of Raleigh, NC, Kathy Mooney and her husband Dr. Kevin Mooney of Woburn, Denise Danis and her husband Ian of Stoneham, and Charlie McDermott and his wife Helena of Wantagh, NY.

A devoted grandmother to Kristen Merryman, Kaitlyn Wrenn, Shannon Mooney, Andrew Lipetzky, Daniel Lipetzky, Shawn Mooney, Meghan Danis, Mary Lipetzky, Sam Danis, Paul Lipetzky, Charlie McDermott, and Corinne McDermott and a proud great grandmother to 7 beautiful great grandchildren. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. 

Marie grew up in Revere and was a graduate of Immaculate Conception High School. A long-time parishioner of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, she was very involved at the parish school when her children were students there. She and her husband, Charlie, delighted in traveling to visit their children and grandchildren in New York and North Carolina and to see family who lived across the United States. Marie was known for her love of baking and always made sure her loved ones were well stocked with baked goods. Weekly gatherings with her “card girls” was a highlight in more recent years. She was an avid Boston sports fan and loved cheering on the Red Sox and Patriots to victory. 

Visitation for relatives and friends will be held at the McDonald-Finnegan-Anderson Funeral Home, 322 Main St., Stoneham on Tuesday, February 18, from 4:00-7:00 p.m. Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated in St. Patrick Church, 71 Central St., Stoneham on Wednesday, February 19, at 10:00 a.m. Internment, St. Patrick Cemetery, Stoneham.
