MARJORIE L. (COON) COLE-BELOVED FIRST GRADE TEACHER at 105 YEARS of AGE
Marjorie L. Coon Cole passed away peacefully on November 14, 2017 at Brooksby Village in Peabody, MA. Beloved Mother, Grandmother, Great Grandmother, "Auntie Marge", teacher and friend, she was born on January 26, 1912. She lived through the Great Depression, Prohibition, and two World Wars. From ice boxes to the refrigerator, she saw the invention of frozen dinners and the color TV. From 35mm cameras to instant film, she lived to see the digital age and recently skyped family across the country and could hardly believe it was happening.
Marge married her husband Ross Freeman Coon and they raised their family of three children in Lynnfield. She gave of herself her entire life. Marge was the founder and owner of Wyoma Kindergarten of Lynn, MA from 1932 to 1939. She then taught first grade at the Center School in Lynnfield from 1946 to 1975. After retiring Marge continued to volunteer and tutor students at the Summer Street School in Lynnfield for many years. Marge was a member of the Centre Congregational Church as well as the Historical Society, the Women's Club, and the Garden Club of Lynnfield. She especially loved golfing, baking her chocolate chip and sugar cookies, reading, gardening and enjoying the warmth of the sun, a cup of tea and spending time with family and friends.
Marge was predeceased by her first husband, Ross F. Coon, her second husband, Walter Cole, and her siblings, Eric, Allie, and Bea. Her first son, Ross F. (Spike) Coon passed away in 2008. Marge is survived by her daughter, Susan Canavan and her husband Michael, of Vienna, VA and her son, Daniel Coon and his wife, Beth, of Mashpee, MA, nine grandchildren and nine great grandchildren, and many wonderful nieces and nephews. All of whom remember Marge's welcoming embraces, counseling, and discussing any and all of their interests. She had a unique ability to know just what to say about life's bumps and bruises. In fact-whether you're a former student or a family member-if you think of Marge and listen intently, you will hear the sound of school bells ringing and you will know that Marge is prepared for class and her lessons will live on in all of us.
