Martin F. McMahon, Jr., 94, of Lynnfield, died Sunday, August 7, 2016 at his residence.
Born in Concord, NH on September 26, 1921 he was the son of the late Martin F. and Ida (Welch) McMahon.
Mr. McMahon was raised in Revere and was a graduate of Revere High School, 1939. In 1942, he joined the U.S. Army and served with a Military Police Unit in New Bedford. In November 1944, Martin was commissioned a second lieutenant and served with Machine Record Units of the Adjutant General's Department in the Pacific Theater of Operations; Philippines, Okinawa, Guam and Hawaii. He was honorably discharged in 1947.
Martin completed courses in advanced electronics and was employed by M.I.T.'s Lincoln Laboratory assisted in development of early transistorized computers. Later, he worked for Honeywell, Inc. developing printed circuit boards for its computer for 26 years. He retired as a Senior Engineer in 1986.
In 1955, Marty became a member of the Knights of Columbus, Revere Council and joined the Msgr. Linnehan council 3745, Lynnfield, in 1963. He served as Grand Knight in 1969. From 1974-1977, he served as District Deputy.
In 1969, Marty became a Fourth Degree member with the John F. Kennedy Assembly, 409. He was elected Faithful Navigator, 1974 and Faithful Comptroller in 1978 where he served for 10 years.
In 1988, Marty was appointed Master of District One and in 1990, Master of the Fourth Degree for all of Massachusetts
He was the beloved husband of Alberta P. (Parisi) McMahon. He was the loving father of Martin F. McMahon, III and his wife Susan McKee of Worcester, VT, Lorraine M. Bartlett and her husband David of Swampscott, Dorothy J. McMahon of Lynnfield, Judith A. Watts of Ipswich, and Stephen M. McMahon of Chicago, IL. He was the brother of Virginia English of Everett and the late Ruth Shea and Robert J. and William J. McMahon. He was the adoring grandfather of Erica Giovannucci, Leah and Tara Bartlett, Gregory and Brian Watts, and Brent, Justin, Yolanda, Martin, IV, and Cora McMahon. He is also survived by three great grandchildren: Tyler, Lilly, and Walt, as well as sister-in-law, Eileen McMahon of Lynnfield and brother-in-law, Joseph Parisi of CA and several nieces and nephews.
His funeral will be held from the McDonald Funeral Home, 19 Yale Ave., Wakefield on Thursday at 9am followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Maria Goretti Church, 112 Chestnut St., Lynnfield at 10am. Interment to follow at Forest Hill Cemetery in Lynnfield. Visitation for relatives and friends at the Funeral Home on Wednesday from 4-8pm.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the charity of one's choice.
