Mary Boghos, 85, of Wakefield, died on Monday, January 17 at her home.
Born in Damascus, Syria on August 15, 1926 she was the daughter of the late Yacoub and Monsoura Darawi.
Raised in Syria, she immigrated to the United States with her husband Joseph in 1959 and first settled in North Carolina. They then moved to Melrose and finally settled in Wakefield in 1960. In the late 1970s she and her husband purchased a small bakery in Lawrence and changed the name to Joseph's Middle East Bakery, Inc. They transformed the small bakery into the largest producer of pita bread on the East Coast.
Mrs. Boghos was the wife of the late Joseph H. Boghos. She was the mother of Raymond Boghos, John Boghos, Deda Shankhour, and Grace Casaletto all of Wakefield and Nabil Boghos of Middleton. She was the sister of the late George Darawi. She is also survived by 12 grandchildren and 3 nieces and nephews.
Her funeral will be held from the McDonald Funeral Home, 19 Yale Ave., Wakefield on Saturday at 9 a.m. followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Joseph Church, 173 Albion St., Wakefield at 10 o'clock. A visitation period will be held at the Funeral Home on Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. Interment will be at Forest Glade Cemetery in Wakefield.
