Mary Canavan

Mary Grace (Hamill) Canavan , of Stoneham died Wednesday, December 31 after a lengthy illness.

She was born in Stoneham on December 25, 1939 and was the daughter of the late Hugh and Gertrude (Lilly) Hamill.

Mary was a native of Stoneham and attended St. Patrick School and later graduated from Stoneham High School, Class of 1957. She had worked for the Stoneham Historical Society and was a longtime employee at the Stoneham Public Schools. She retired as the Secretary of the Robin Hood Elementary School. She had also been a member of the St. Patrick Church Drum and Bugle Corp.

Mary was the beloved wife of Paul P. Canavan . She was the loving mother of Linda A. Canavan of Scituate, Lori A. Cook and husband Jason of Pembroke, Paul W. Canavan of Wakefield, Leanne Woods and husband Brian of Marshfield, Jeffrey H. Canavan of Stoneham and Lisa M. MacMillan and husband John of NH. She was the grandmother of Katelyn, Brianna, Melissa, Kevin, and the late Steven Zachary. She was the great-grandmother of Leila. She was the sister of the late Hugh F. Hamill.

Her funeral will be held from the McDonald-Finnegan Funeral Home, 322 Main St. Stoneham on Monday at 9am followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Patrick Church 71 Central St., Stoneham at 10:00. Visitation for relatives and friends will be held at the funeral home on Sunday from 1-5pm. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children Research Hospital 501 St. Jude Pl. Memphis, TN 38105.
