Mary F. Doherty, 83, of Wakefield died suddenly on Tuesday, December 18 at the Woodbriar of Wilmington Rehabilitation Center.
Born in Wilmington on October 6, 1929 she was the cherished daughter of the late Jacob and Bessie (Benson) Wicks.
Mary was a graduate of Wilmington High School, Class of 1947. She and her husband met at H.P. Hood in Charlestown. Mary helped establish a family business together with her husband, Everett Automatic Transmission. Mary enjoyed spending weekends with her family at their summer cottage at Lake
Winnipesaukee in Alton Bay, NH. She greatly enjoyed gardening and was a talented artist who loved oil painting. Mary was a lover of candy and sweets; her family fondly remembers how Nana could always be counted on for her stash of snacks and treats.
She was the beloved wife of the late Frank G. Doherty. She was the loving mother of Gail Naylor and her late husband David of Wakefield, Nancy
Geljookian and husband John of No. Reading, Alan Doherty and wife Anne of Wakefield, and Cathy D'Entremont and husband Steve of Salem, NH. She was the dedicated sister of Ted Wicks, Ethel Rodriguez, Louise Perkins, Vonnie Welch, Irene Saunders, and the late Lydia Dow, twins Leslie and Lloyd Wicks, Stanley Wicks, and twins Ralph and Bert Wicks. She was the devoted grandmother of Cheryl and Brooke Naylor, Michael Geljookian and the late Andy Geljookian, Eric and Ryan Doherty, and Kevin and Kristen D'Entremont. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
A Funeral service will be held at the Wakefield-Lynnfield United Methodist Church, 273 Vernon St., Wakefield on Saturday at 11 a.m. Visitation for relatives and friends will be held at the McDonald Funeral Home, 19 Yale Ave., Wakefield on Friday 5-8 p.m. Interment, Lakeside Cemetery, Wakefield.
