Mary Driscoll

Mary Dorothy Driscoll, of Stoneham, passed peacefully with her loving family by her side on Sunday, April 15th at the Jeanne Jugan Residence in Somerville.

Born in Providence, R.I. on January 18, 1915, she was the daughter of the late M. Francis and Mary E. (Foley) Corcoran.

Dorothy had attended St. Patrick School and was a graduate of both Stoneham High School and later, the former Massachusetts State College in Amherst, class of 1936. Mrs. Driscoll was a retired Home Economics teacher at Wakefield High School and had also taught at Stoneham High School and schools in New Hampshire. She had been a member of the Stoneham Women's Club, the St. Patrick's Mother's Club and the Stoneham Arts & Crafts Society. For many years, Dorothy had taught quilting at the night school at Stoneham High School and also at "Our Place" in Stoneham for many years.

Mrs. Driscoll was the wife of the late John H. Driscoll. She was the mother of Patricia A. Walsh and her husband James of Oakdale, CT, John H. Driscoll, Jr. and his wife Suzie of Lakewood, WA, George Michael Driscoll and his wife Maryellen of Westford, Robert F. Driscoll of Yarmouth, William E. Driscoll of Manchester, NH, and Dennis P. Driscoll and his wife Margaret of Middleboro. Mary had been the sister of Anne C. Davenport of Hopedale and the late Frederick L. Corcoran. She is also survived by 14 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.

Her funeral will be held from the McDonald-Finnegan Funeral Home, 322 Main St., Stoneham on Friday at 9 a.m. followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Patrick Church, 71 Central St., Stoneham at 10 o'clock. A period of visitation for relatives and friends will be held at the Funeral Home on Thursday from 4 – 8 P.M. Interment will be at St. Patrick Cemetery, Stoneham. In lieu of flowers in her memory, contributions may be made to the Jeanne Jugan Residence, Little Sisters of the Poor, 186 Highland Ave. Somerville, MA 02143.
