Mary Tecce

Mary Gregorio Tecce , 82, a lifetime resident of Wakefield died Tuesday, December 20, at the Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston surrounded by her children after a lengthy and courageous battle with cancer.

Born in Wakefield on March 10, 1929, she was the daughter of the late Angelo Michael and Maria (DeGennaro) Gregorio .

Mary graduated with honors from Wakefield High School, Class of 1947. She attended Malden Business School. Prior to marriage she worked full-time as the office manager for the Wakefield Ready-Mix Concrete Co, sometimes serving as interim manager of the concrete company. After raising her children she decided to re-enter the workforce in 1983 as a special needs bus aide for the Wakefield School system. In 1989 she retired from that position so she along with her husband Louis could watch their grandchild Ashley for 14 years while her parents worked.

In 1999, after spending 25 years involved in many school and town issues she decided to run for the School Committee. Mary served on the board for 8 years, two years as Vice Chairman and one as Chairman. In the 200l election Mary received the most votes in any of the contested races. One of her proudest moments as Chairman was handing out the diplomas to that years graduating class at Wakefield High School.

Over the years Mary was a former CCD teacher, board member of the Greenwood PTA, member of the Capital Planning Committee, Chairwoman of TAW, and a member of the Town Assessment Property Committee. In 2007 she received the prestigious Skulley Award in memory of William Skulley, Jr., at the Celebration of Learning Banquet.

Mary was the wife of the late Louis F. Tecce , Jr., who passed away September 21, 2009. She was the beloved mother of Mary DiDonato and her husband Victor of Melrose, Lisa, Thomas, and Elaine Tecce of Wakefield. Devoted sister of Henry Gregorio of Wakefield, the late Marie Lapery, Frank, Samuel, Alfred (her twin), John and Carmen Gregorio . She was the cherished grandmother of Ashley DiDonato and her sister Jennifer Riley. She is also survived by many beloved nieces, nephews and longtime friends.

Her funeral will be held from the McDonald Funeral Home, 19 Yale Ave., Wakefield on Friday at 9 a.m. followed by a funeral mass at the Most Blessed Sacrament Church, 1155 Main St., Wakefield at 10 o'clock. Visitation for relatives and friend will be held on Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m. Interment will be at Forest Glade Cemetery in Wakefield.
