Mary L. Halpin, 85, of Peabody and formerly Lynnfield died on Friday, November 5 at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers.
Born in Everett on July 9, 1925, she was the daughter of the late Joseph M. and Lauretta (Gillis) Burke.
Raised in Revere, Mary was a graduate of Revere High School, class of 1944 and Burdette Business School. Mrs. Halpin had been a Lynnfield resident for 45 years before moving to the Brooksby Village in Peabody in 2005. She had worked as a switchboard operator for the Massachusetts General Hospital and had also worked for Cigna, which at the time was known as the Insurance Company of North America. Mary had been a choir member at Our Lady of the Assumption Church in Lynnfield and was also a former member of "Sweet Adelines", a choir group out of Lynn, MA.
Mrs. Halpin was the wife of the late Leo G. Halpin. She was the mother of Susan A. Cramer and her husband Calvin of Manchester, NH and Emmett R. Halpin and his wife Dorothy of Wakefield. Mary was the sister of Priscilla Sanchez of Wakefield, Joseph M. Burke of Revere and the late Leo S. Burke and Barbara Lindskoog. She is also survived by her 2 grandchildren, Raymond and Valerie and many nieces and nephews.
Her funeral will be held from the McDonald Funeral Home, 19 Yale Ave. Wakefield, on Tuesday at 9 A.M. followed by a funeral mass in Our Lady of the Assumption Church, located on the corner of Salem St. and Grove St. in Lynnfield at 10 o'clock. Visitation for relatives and friends will be held at the funeral home on Monday from 4 – 8 P.M. Interment will be at Forest Hill Cemetery, Lynnfield.
