Mary McCarthy

Mary McCarthy, 74, of Wakefield died on Thursday, March 17 at the Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston.

Born in Co. Clare, Ireland on June 27, 1936 she was the daughter of the late Timothy and Mary (Carmody) Meaney.

Mrs. McCarthy grew up in Co. Clare Ireland. She came to the United States in 1957, first making her home in Charlestown. MA and later locating to Wakefield in 1966. She was a member of the North Shore Irish Association and a member of the Irish Set Dancing Group at Harrington's Restaurant in Wakefield. She was self employed as a care giver.

She was the mother of Michael McCarthy and his wife Kathleen of Dracut and Patricia M. Darrah and her husband Matthew of St. Louis, MO. She was the sister of Michael and Timothy Meaney, Muriel Liddy, Margaret Hough, Chris Clancy and the late Helen Haugh. She was the grandmother of Sean, Dierdra and Reagan.

Her funeral will be held from the McDonald Funeral Home, 19 Yale Ave., Wakefield on Monday at 9 a.m. followed by a funeral mass in St. Joseph Church, 173 Albion St., Wakefield at 10 o'clock. A period of visitation will be held at the funeral home on Sunday from 1 to 4 p.m. Interment will be at Lakeside Cemetery in Wakefield.
