Mary McNamara

Mary J. McNamara of Wakefield formerly of Melrose, died on Thursday, September 22 at the Elmhurst Golden Living Nursing Center in Melrose.

Mrs. McNamara was raised in Medford. She was a graduate of Medford High School and had attended Secretarial School. Mrs. McNamara had retired from the Converse Rubber Company. She was an avid line dancer and had also enjoyed her time at the Dutton Family Care Center in Wakefield. Mrs. McNamara was a member of the Most Blessed Sacrament Church in Wakefield.

She was the beloved wife of the late John A. McNamara, loving mother of Laurie Sokol and husband Steven of Wakefield and the late Marilyn Zimmerle. Sister of Paul Hargraves and wife Shirley of FL and the late Lillian Sheehan, Katherine O'Neill and George Hargraves. Devoted grandmother of Brian Sokol, David Sokol and girlfriend Lisa, Allison Benoit and husband Rich, Michael Sokol and wife Jacqueline, Jillian Lopes and husband Kevin, Jennifer Sokol, Lance CPL, Kevin Sokol and the late Gregory and Peter Sokol.

Her funeral will be held from the McDonald Funeral Home, 19 Yale Ave, Wakefield on Monday at 9am followed by a Funeral Mass in the Most Blessed Sacrament Church 1155 Main St, Wakefield at 10am. Visitation for relatives and friends will be held at the Funeral Home on Sunday from 1-4pm.

Interment will be at Wyoming Cemetery in Melrose.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Red Sox Foundation and Mass General Hospital, Home Base Program, c/o Red Sox Foundation, 4 Yawkey Way, Boston, MA 02215
