Melvin B. Crowell, 81, a Lynnfield resident since 1956, died on Wednesday, June 11 at his home.
Born in Lynn on December 10, 1926, he was the son of the late Wilson and Edna (Saunders) Crowell.
Mr. Crowell was a graduate of Lynn English High School, Class of 1944. During World War II he served in the US Navy. He had been employed by G.E. Riverworks Plant in Lynn from 1944 to 1987. Mr. Crowell was a member of the Meadow Larks Semi-Pro Basket Team of Lynn and the Two State Y.M.C.A Basketball Champions of Lynn. He was a member of the Town Line Golf League since 1993 and had been secretary since 1995. Mr. Crowell enjoyed playing golf, horse racing and scratch tickets.
Mr. Crowell was the husband of the late Marjorie A. (Peterson) Crowell. He is survived by his daughter Diane Drover and her husband John of Lynnfield. He was predeceased by his sister Ruth G. Lamorder and his two brothers; Lloyd W. Crowell and William S. Crowell.
A funeral service will be held in the McDonald Funeral Home, 19 Yale Ave., Wakefield on Saturday at 10 AM. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home on Friday from 4 to 8 PM. Interment will be at Riverside Cemetery in Saugus.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 30 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701 or to the Hospice of the North Shore, 10 Elm St., Danvers, MA 01923.
