Michael A. Gonnella, 55, lost his life in a tragic accident on August 1 in Phoenix, Arizona.
Born in Wakefield on September 8, 1957 he was the adoring son of Barbara (Palermo) Gonnella and Tony Gonnella and his wife Jeannine.
Michael was a graduate of Wakefield High School, Class of 1976. Michael was an outstanding football player and was co-captain and Most Valuable Player in his senior year. Michael was a peaceful soul with a heart of gold who always looked at life through rose colored glasses.
Michael was a devoted father to his loving daughters, Nina and Anna. Michael also leaves behind brothers Mark and his wife Shelley, John and his fiancé Tracey, Paul and his wife Amanda and his sister-in-law Kerry Gonnella. Additionally, he leaves behind two step sisters, Jennifer Fuentes of NC and Jeannette West of CA, as well as many aunts, uncles, nephews and cousins. Michael was preceded in death by his brother Peter Gonnella.
Michael's funeral will be held from the McDonald Funeral Home, 19 Yale Ave, Wakefield on Monday at 9am followed by a funeral mass in the Most Blessed Sacrament Church, 1155 Main Street, Wakefield at 10 o'clock. Visitation for relatives and friends will be held at the funeral home on Sunday from 1-5pm. Internment, Tuesday, Evergreen Cemetery, East Harwich, MA, where Michael will be buried beside his brother Peter.
Services were also held in Arizona for Michael's friends in Phoenix.
