Michael A. Nardelli, 82, of Woburn died on Thursday, January 5 at the Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston, the husband of Sophia C. (Marcinczyk) Nardelli for 56 years.

Mike was the youngest of three children of the late Rocco and Filomena (Brunetti) Nardelli. Born in Springdale, PA on July 8, 1929 Mike was a life long Woburn resident and graduate of Woburn High School in 1947. Following his graduation, Mike attended Burdett College in Boston where he earned an accounting degree. In March 1951 he served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. After the war Mike attended the New England Institute of Embalming in Boston where he earned his Funeral Directing and Embalmers License in 1957. He apprenticed at Waterman's Funeral Home in Boston and then worked at the McDonald Funeral Home in Wakefield for 35 years.

During his retirement, Mike told his family and friends that he was going to "show business" by working at the Cinema Showcase in Woburn part-time. Later he worked for the DelloRusso Funeral Home in Woburn, until he passed away. Mike was quite active in the community sharing his stories, passing out candy his sense of humor, and compassionate natire with family and friends. He enjoyed the mornings with his "over the hill" gang at Dunkin Donuts in North Woburn.

He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather known for being an avid reader, who enjoyed playing golf, gardening, playing cards, traveling with his wife and spending time with his family and friends. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus and a member of the St. Anthony's Club in Woburn, MA.

Mike was the husband of Sophia "Sue" (Marcinczyk) Nardelli. He was the father of Marianne M. DeCelles and her late husband Stephen H. of Tewksbury, Michael A. Nardelli, Jr. of Woburn, Susan C. Nardelli of Nashua, NH, Stephen R. Nardelli and his wife Cathy Bennett of Hudson, NH, Kathleen M. Moran and her husband Daniel of Quincy and Judith Scalley and her husband David of Twin Mountain, NH. Mike was the brother of Josephine Pappas of Woburn and the late Antoinette Roketenetz. He is also survived by his best friend and "better than a brother", Stanley Roketenetz of Lynnfield, beloved God son James Michael Pappas of Woburn along with many nieces and nephews. His legacy will live on through his 10 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.

His funeral will be held from the McDonald Funeral Home, 19 Yale Ave., Wakefield on Tuesday at 9 a.m. followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Anthony of Padua Church, 851 Main St., Woburn, at 10 o'clock. Visitation for relatives and friends will be held at the Funeral Home on Monday from 4 to 8 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Woburn Senior Center, 144 School St., Woburn, MA 01801 in his memory.
