Joseph R. Gallella, 74, a longtime resident of Wakefield, died Friday evening, February 14, at the Melrose-Wakefield Hospital.
Born in Stoneham on October 23, 1939 he was the son of the late Alfred and Edith Gallella.
Joseph was raised in Stoneham and educated in the Stoneham Public School System. He was a retired Property Manager for several properties in the area including the Abbey Hill Nursing Home in Saugus. In his spare time Joseph enjoyed fishing, painting and frequenting the casinos in the New England area.
He was the husband of the late Janet E. (Baker) Gallella, with whom he shared 51 years of marriage. Joseph is survived by his 4 daughters; Jo-Ann Moriarty and her husband Wayne of No. Reading, Eileen Gallella and Christine M. Gallella of Wakefield, and Debi L. Tarnowski and her husband Brian of Brentwood, NH., his brothers Jerald Moore of Bangor, ME and Ralph Gallella of CA, and his sister Maryanne Arrigo of Stoneham. He was the grandfather of Michael, Alyssa, Jacquelyn, Christian, Dominic, Marc-Anthony, Matthew, Taylor, Joseph, and Lydia, and the great grandfather of Jordan, Jack, and PJ. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
A funeral mass will be Celebrated in St. Joseph Church, 173 Albion St., Wakefield on Thursday at 10 A.M. Visitation for relatives and friends will be held at the McDonald Funeral Home, 19 Yale Ave., Wakefield on Wednesday from 4-8 p.m. Interment will be at Forest Glade Cemetery, Wakefield.
