Shirley M . Fleming , 78, a Stoneham resident for 58 years, died peacefully, Wednesday, February 5 at the Sawtelle Family Hospice House, after a courageous battle with Alzheimer's.
Born in Freedom, ME on November 14, 1935 she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Dorothy (Bothwick) DeAngelis.
Shirley was raised in Wakefield and was a graduate of Wakefield High School, Class of 1953. She was a member of St. Patrick Church in Stoneham and a former teller for Bank of America in Reading.
Shirley
was a foster mother for over 30 newborns from Catholic Charities.
Her best work was done as a loving wife, mother of six and grandmother to 12.
Shirley is survived by her husband of 58 years, David F. Fleming , Sr; her children Cynthia Ananian of Barrington, NH, Daniel Fleming of Stoneham, Nancy Faragi and her husband Michael of Derry, NH, Steven Fleming and his wife Lee of Wakefield, Christine Fleming of Santa Monica, CA and the late David F. Fleming , Jr. She was the sister of Lawrence DeAngelis of Chelmsford. She is also survived by twelve grandchildren.
Her funeral will be held from the McDonald-Finnegan Funeral Home, 322 Main St., Stoneham on Saturday at 9 AM., followed by a funeral mass in St. Patrick Church, 71 Central St. Stoneham at 10 o'clock. A visitation for relatives and friends will be held at the funeral home on Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. Interment will be at Lindenwood Cemetery, Stoneham.
