Thomas G. Carroll, 63 of Wakefield died March 1 in Reading. Born in Melrose on May 2, 1951 and was the loving son of Ruth E. (Cooper) Carroll of Reading and the late Elmer Ray Carroll. Mr. Carroll was raised in Wakefield and was a graduate of Wakefield High School, Class of 1969. He was a drummer for the former groups "The Rogues" and "Yet to Be." Following high school, he played semiprofessional hockey and briefly worked for the Wakefield Light and Gas Department before going on to attended Dade County Community College in Miami, FL and also Florida International University.
Mr. Carroll later worked for Florida Gas Company. He was a Safety Engineer for the Dade County Metro Rail Project and was a Safety Director for Parsons & Whittemore for the construction of the Dade County Resource Recovery Plant. He was the former owner of West Side Landscaping Company of Wakefield before starting a job with the state of Massachusetts as Deputy Director of Safety for the Industrial Accident Board. He served on the Town of Wakefield Board of Public Works, was a member of the Knights of Columbus, and was also a member and past President of the West Side Social Club; as well as a member of the American Society of Safety Engineers, South Miami Chapter.
Mr. Carroll was the beloved husband of Cheryl L. (Camuso) Carroll. He was the loving father of Thomas G. Carroll, Jr and fiancée Cindy of Reading, Heather L. Carroll of Wakefield and Meghan V. Carroll and her fiancé Dan of Amesbury. He was the brother of Paul Carroll and his wife Nancy of RI, David Carroll and wife Ruth of Wilmington, Kathleen Baxter and husband Bob of Pepperell, Sheila Parr and husband David of Wakefield, Susan LeDuc and husband Bill of NH and the late Joan and Christopher Carroll. He is also survived by his two loving grandchildren Jadyn and Madison.
His funeral will be held from the McDonald Funeral Home, 19 Yale Ave., Wakefield Thursday at 9am followed by a funeral mass in the Most Blessed Sacrament Church, 1155 Main St., Wakefield at 10:00. Interment will follow at Forest Glade Cemetery. Visitation for relatives and friends will be held at the funeral home on from Wednesday 4-8pm.
