Neil D. Bertrand, Sr., 69, of Wakefield died on Monday evening, April 19 at Tufts New England Medical Center in Boston.
Born in Lynn on July 17, 1940 he was the son of the late Earle C. and Catherine (Killoran) Bertrand.
Mr. Bertrand was a graduate of St. Mary's High School in Lynn, class of 1958. During the Vietnam Era he served in the Unites States Army from 1958 to 1962. He had retired from Lannan Chevrolet in Woburn.
Mr. Bertrand loved cars and particularly liked following the NASCAR races on television. He also enjoyed history and especially loved reading about World War I and World War II, and watching his many tapes covering those wars.
Mr. Bertrand is survived by his wife, Ellen (Leahy) Bertrand, his two sons, Neil D. Bertrand, Jr. and Eric V. Bertrand both of Wakefield, three brothers, Earle Bertrand of Saugus, Paul Bertrand of Nahant and Kerry Bertrand of Marblehead and one sister, Nancy Moody of Lynn. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held at Forest Glade Cemetery in Wakefield on Saturday at 11 a.m. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visitation will be held at the McDonald Funeral Home, 19 Yale Ave. Wakefield on Friday from 4 to 7 p.m.
