, 90, a life long resident of Wakefield died Thursday, March 5 at the Bear Hill Nursing Center in Stoneham.
Born in Boston on May 7, 1918, he was raised by his wonderful foster mother Evelena MacDonald in the community of Greenwood which he loved and supported. He was a graduate of Wakefield High School.
Norman
was a World War II Army Veteran who received the Purple Heart after becoming disabled when he was shot in Normandy, France in 1945. He was a proud American who loved his country and what the flag stood for. After returning home from the war he married the love of his life Elsie Eaton. He attended Essex Agricultural School for Horticulture while working at Carter's Greenhouse in Tewksbury. He had worked for the Parkwood Laminate Company of Wakefield and had retired as a security Guard for American Mutual Insurance Company. He was a member of Demolay, Knights of Pythias, (William McKinley Lodge) formerly of Malden. At the age of 18, he began his working career as an usher at the former Wakefield Theater. He was a life long member of the Greenwood Union Church and served as Deacon, Sunday school teacher and member of Mr. and Mrs. Club. While living in Wakefield, he was proud to be a supporter of local businesses. After retiring he moved to Shapleigh, ME where he became President of the Mr. and Mrs. Club of the Springvale Baptist Church and experienced twelve wonderful years of relaxation.
In 1997, his wife Elsie became handicapped due to a brain tumor.
Norman
was devoted to her for 11 more years showing his commitment to their marriage vows. He was a great father and most of all a very loving and caring husband.
His advice to others was "Don't Worry About It!" although his middle name could have been "WORRY"!

of Wakefield and Brenda G. Perry and her husband Jeff of San Antonio TX. Norm is also survived by his 12 grandchildren, his brother Carleton L. Sharpe and his wife Sandra of Shapleigh, ME, his two sisters; Esther Mason and her husband Henry of CT and Carol Cerullo and her husband Anthony of Wakefield. Norm was preceded in death by his brother George MacDonald, and his sisters Gladys Hawley and Grace MacDonald and his son in law Thomas J Harrow.
A funeral service will be held in the Greenwood Union Church, corner of Main St and Oak St, in Wakefield on Tuesday at 11am. Relatives and friends may call at the McDonald Funeral Home, 19 Yale Ave, Wakefield on Monday from 4-8 pm. Interment will be at Forest Glade Cemetery in Wakefield.
