Patrick Gannon

Patrick Francis Gannon, 40, a resident of Wakefield since 1978, passed away at the Brigham & Women's Hospital in Boston following a courageous, lifelong battle with Cystic Fibrosis.

Born in Malden on June 2, 1968, Patrick was the son of the late Thomas Anthony and Helen May (Arnett) Gannon.

Patrick was a graduate of Wakefield High School, Class of 1968, and had attended Bunker Hill Community College. He was an employee of National Leisure Group in Woburn since 1997 where he was a Passenger Operations Representative.

Patrick was the manager of the Boys High School Basketball Team since 1983 and was looking forward to this year's season. He was inducted into the Wakefield High School Athletic Hall of Fame in 1997 for his years of service and dedication to both the boys' and the girls' basketball programs.

Patrick enjoyed spending time with his friends and family, traveling, doing crosswords puzzles and building models. He also enjoyed trips to the Foxwoods and Mohegan Casinos. He was an avid video game player; a passion he shared with his brothers and two great nephews. Patrick also enjoyed bowling and was a member of the Men's League at the Wakefield Bowladrome for many years. Patrick was a lifelong fan of the Los Angeles Lakers, the Miami Dolphins and the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Patrick is survived by his sister Kathleen Ann (Gannon) Duncan and her husband Gary Robert Duncan of Wakefield who raised Patrick after the passing of his parents. He is also survived by his aunt Dorothy (Arnett) Post of R.I. and her family, his uncle John Gannon of New Jersey and his family, his Aunt Ruth (Arnett) Ormsby of Ohio and her family, his brother Scott Michael Duncan of Wakefield, his brother Gary Robert Duncan Jr. and his wife Rachel Anne Nonte and their children Robert Anthony and Joseph Michael of Indianapolis, his niece Tracy (Gannon) Vincente and her family, his nephew Jason Gannon and his family, and his aunt Linda Peluso and her family. He was also the beloved nephew of Charles and Eileen Curran of Wakefield, beloved nephew of James and Marie Duncan of Wakefield and beloved cousin of Christopher Curran of Wakefield, Colleen (Curran) Abcunas and her family of Wakefield, Courtney Curran of Wakefield and Charles "Charlie" Curran of Wakefield. Patrick was preceded in death by his uncle Robert Edward Gannon, brother Thomas Edward Gannon and sister Helen Marie Gannon.

The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and staff of the Boston Children's Hospital and the Brigham & Women's Hospital for their lifelong care of Patrick.

The family thanks the Fella's and his other close friends for their support of Patrick over the years. His life would not have been the same without you.

We thank the family of the anonymous person that donated their lungs to Patrick. We hope that the family finds consolation and pride in the fact that their loss allowed us to enjoy an additional 11 years with Patrick.

The family extends the deepest thanks to Brad and July Simpson. You were both an important part of Patrick's life. The special bond Patrick had with them was as strong as the one he had with his family and sustained him through the years. Coach, Patrick admired you more than you may have known.

Patrick's funeral will be held from the McDonald Funeral Home, 19 Yale Ave., Wakefield on Wednesday at 9 AM followed by a Funeral Mass in the Most Blessed Sacrament Church, 1155 Main St., Wakefield at 10 o'clock. Relatives and friends may call at the Funeral Home on Tuesday 3-8 PM. Interment will be at Forest Glade Cemetery, Wakefield.

In lieu of flower, the family requests donations be made on Patrick's behalf to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation online at https://www.cff.org/Getinvolved/ManyWaysToGive/Donate/ or by calling the local chapter at 800-966-0444
