Peter McCarthy

Peter McCarthy, 48, of Wenham, MA, and formerly of Gloucester, passed away suddenly at his home on Friday, March 9, just 10 days short of his 49th birthday.

Born in Melrose, MA on March 19, 1963, he was the son of Ann (Fox) McCarthy and the late William E. McCarthy of Captiva, FL and Lynnfield, MA.

A life-long Massachusetts resident, Peter was raised in Melrose and Lynnfield. Mr. McCarthy was a graduate of St. John's Prepatory School (1981) in Danvers and Bentley College in Waltham. He was a 3rd generation operator of W.E. McCarthy Inc., a point of great pride for him. Mr. McCarthy grew up boating with his family and carried that passion throughout his life. Peter could often be found at Cape Ann Marina in Gloucester, where he kept his boat. Some of his happiest days were spent last summer in Gloucester, having recently acquired a boat that he lived on during the summer. A hockey player in his youth, Bruins games were not to be missed for Peter and he relished seeing the Stanley Cup come back to Boston last June. Peter also had an affinity for cars and always kept an eye out for something special when his work took him to vehicle auctions.

In addition to his mother, Ann McCarthy, Peter is survived by his sister Linda McCarthy of Belchertown, MA, and sister Paula McCarthy Haas and her husband Greg of West Newbury, MA. He also leaves behind 3 adoring nieces, Kate, Ally and Emily Haas. Peter is also survived by his loving Golden Retriever, Sam. Peter was a loyal friend to many, and had an amazing group of true friends, who will miss him dearly.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation be made in his name to The American Heart Association (www.heart.org), Yankee Golden Retriever Rescue (www.ygrr.org), or the charity of one's choice.
