Phyllis V. DeMerchant, age 72, of Stoneham, formerly of Methuen, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 29, 2024 at the Winchester Hospital with her family by her side.
Born in Lawrence on August 2, 1951 she was the daughter of the late Philip and Virginia (Tinsch) Thomes.
Mrs. DeMerchant was raised in Andover and was a graduate of Andover High School, Class of 1969. She also was a graduate of the Andover Institute of Business, Class of 1970. In 1978, she married Peter DeMerchant and the two soon settled in Methuen and started their family. In addition to being a wonderful and doting mother, Phyllis worked as a receptionist throughout a variety of different industries, which she loved as it allowed her to exercise her interpersonal skills. She loved to take pictures and was always behind the camera. In recent years her true joy was her grandchildren who lovingly called her "Grammy." She was also an animal lover, especially her cats.
She was the beloved wife of Peter DeMerchant. She was the loving mother of Eric P. DeMerchant and his wife Janelle of Stoneham and Robyn T. DeMerchant of Wakefield. She was the grandmother of Hallie and Dax DeMerchant. She is also survived by her brother, Frederick Thomes of Dracut, her niece Victoria J. Rowe and her husband Nicholas of PA, and her nephew Lawrence F. Thomes and his wife Katie of Methuen. She was predeceased by her sister-in-law Dianne Thomes.
Visitation for relatives and friends will be held at the McDonald-Finnegan Funeral Home, 322 Main St., Stoneham on Thursday, April 4 from 4-7pm.
