Raymond L. Shaw, 84, of Stoneham, formerly of Wakefield, died peacefully on Monday, December 31, 2012 surrounded by family and friends.

Born in Cambridge on October 28, 1928 he was the son of the late Francis and Christine (Driscoll) Shaw.

Ray grew up in East Boston where he excelled at sports. Ray was a standout pitcher at English High and later with the City Park League. A graduate of Boston College, he retired from the City of Boston after 38 years as a teacher, administrator and labor relations specialist. A longtime member of the Bear Hill Golf Club, Ray will be remembered for his love of the game of golf played in the company of friends. During the Korean Conflict Ray served in the U.S. Army.

Ray was the loving husband to his wife of 58 years, Janice (Marley) Shaw and father to Elizabeth Shaw of New Jersey. He was the beloved brother of Faye Ramsay of Danvers and the late Bernadette Culkeen. He was the loving Uncle to many nieces and nephews.

His funeral will be held from the McDonald Funeral Home, 19 Yale Ave. Wakefield Saturday at 9am followed by a funeral mass in St. Joseph Church, 173 Albion St., Wakefield at 10 o'clock. Visitation for relatives and friends will be held at the funeral home on Friday from 4-8pm. Interment will be at Forest Glade Cemetery in Wakefield.
