Boutiette
, 82, of Wakefield, the former long- serving leader of the town's Department of Public Works, died on Thursday, May 31, at his home.
Born in Worcester on March 19, 1930, he was the son of the late Clifford and Regina (Vigeant)

Boutiette
was a graduate of St. John's High School in Shrewsbury. Mr.
Boutiette
retired on Oct. 2, 1992 as Wakefield's DPW director after 31 years on the job. He served into his 11th three-year term.
The 1952 Worcester Polytechnic Institute graduate was a U.S. Marine Corps captain on active duty from 1952 to 1954 during the Korean Conflict and then served in the reserves for the next seven years. Prior to taking over as Wakefield's DPW director in August 1961, he was a resident engineer for the state from 1955 to 1956, specializing in roadways and bridges and then joined the private firm of Edwards and Kelcey from 1956-58, working on the design of a 3.2 mile segment of Route 93. He became a registered professional engineer in 1958 and from 1958-61 was Reading's town engineer.
During his 31 years in Wakefield, grants were received to redo downtown Wakefield, to rebuild Main Street's Lakeside and to improve
Lake Quannapowitt.
Under Mr. Boutiette's leadership, the DPW went to a vehicle preventive maintenance program and a computerized fuel system. He also was the front man for the beginning of the town's recycling
program back in the early 1990s.
He served on the executive committee of the solid waste consortium which negotiated a 20 year contract with RESCO — the trash to energy plant off the Lynn Marsh Road in Saugus. That move is credited with
saving substantial sums of money over a decade.

Boutiette
, an avid golfer and a member of the Bear Hill Golf Club, belonged to many professional groups, including the American Society of Civil Engineers, the Water Pollution Control Federation,
the New England Water Works Association and the Mass. Municipal Engineers Association. He received numerous awards from the New England chapter of the American Public Works Association. Mr.
Boutiette
also published articles on water disposal, recycling and the removal of snow and ice. He also was honored during his career by American City magazine and the Norfolk, Bristol and Middlesex Highway Association.
The Wakefield Recycling Committee awarded him its Cyrus Award.

was a member of St. Joseph parish in Wakefield.

was the husband of the late Helen (Rembiszewski)Boutiette. He was the father of Judith A.
Boutiette
of Wakefield and John R.
Boutiette
and his wife Amy of Watertown.
His funeral will be held from the McDonald Funeral Home, 19 Yale Ave., Wakefield, on Tuesday at 9 a.m. followed by a funeral Mass in St. Joseph Church, 173 Albion St., Wakefield, at 10 a.m. A visitation for relatives and friends will be held at the funeral home on Monday from 4 to 8 p.m. Interment will be at Forest Glade Cemetery in Wakefield.
