Richard J. Crosby, 84, of Reading and formerly of Stoneham and Dennisport, died Sunday, August 10 in Wilmington. He was born in Cambridge on June 25, 1930 and was the son of the late Joseph P. and Mary H. (Donahue) Crosby.
Mr. Crosby was raised in Arlington and later served in the United States Coast Guard during W.W. II and also Korea. Mr. Crosby was a professional musician and played as a drummer for the "Bobby Travis Trio" and "Snooky and the Hi/Tones" during the 1960's. He was a member of Teamsters Local # 25 and later retired from the U.S. Treasury Department. He also enjoyed camping and was an avid tennis player.
Mr. Crosby was the beloved husband of the late Theresa A. (Wells) Crosby. He was the loving father of Richard J. Crosby, Jr. and his wife Roberta and Jo-Ann Crosby all of Reading. He was the loving grandfather of Richard Crosby, III and his wife Nicole and David and Brian Crosby and the great grandfather of Lily, Richard, IV and Ella Mae Crosby.
His funeral will be held from the McDonald-Finnegan Funeral Home, 322 Main St., Stoneham on Thursday at 9:30 am followed by a funeral mass in St. Athanasius Church, 300 Haverhill St., Reading at 10:30am. Visitation for relatives and friends will be held at the funeral Home on Wednesday 4-8pm. Interment will be at Charles Lawn Cemetery in Reading.
