Richard Atherton

Richard E . Atherton , 58, of Stoneham died on Saturday, August 21 at the Winchester Hospital.

Born in Melrose on June 29, 1952 he was the son of the late Elliott and Elaine (Spaulding) Atherton .

Richard was raised in Melrose and was a graduate of Melrose High School, Class of 1972. He was currently employed with BJ's in Woburn.

Richard enjoyed NASCAR and loved spending time with his grandchildren.

Richard was the husband of the late Kathleen (Noonan) Atherton . He was the father of Richard E . Atherton Jr., and his fiance Sarah McDonald and David J. Atherton , all of Stoneham and the brother of the late Janice Higgins. He is also survived by his grandchildren, James and Abagail.

A Visitation will be held in the McDonald-Finnegan Funeral Home, 322 Main St., Stoneham on Wednesday 6-8pm. Funeral services will be private.
