Richard Murphy

Richard F . Murphy , 85, a long time resident of Wakefield died Monday, June 13 at the Melrose-Wakefield Hospital.

Born in Lynn on August 25, 1925 he was the son of the late Robert and Catherine (Hellmuth) Murphy .

Mr. Murphy was raised in Chelsea before becoming a Wakefield resident in 1950. He had been retired from the U.S. Merchant Marines and had also worked as a manager for the former Towne News on North Avenue in Wakefield.

Mr. Murphy was the husband of B. Louise (Thompson) Murphy . He was the father of Eric J. Murphy of Wakefield, Richard B. Murphy and his wife Pam and Joel F . Murphy and his wife Kathy, all of NH, Robin M. Barnard and her husband Dana of Acton, and the late Michael Murphy . He is also survived by his 13 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Mr. Murphy was predeceased by his brother Robert Murphy .

A funeral service will be held at the McDonald Funeral Home, 19 Yale Ave., Wakefield on Monday at 11 am. A visitation for relatives and friends will be held at the funeral home prior to the service beginning at 9am. Interment will be private.
