Richard L. Laramie, 62, of Wakefield, formerly of Concord, New Hampshire, died Saturday, August 8 at the Sawtelle Family Hospice House in Reading after a brief battle with cancer. Husband of Barbara L. (Hanlon) Laramie and father of Jonathan R. Laramie, Kristen A. Laramie and Kevin J. Laramie, all of Wakefield. Also survived by his sister, Joan Laramie of North Andover and his brother-in-law, James Hanlon of Groton as well as several nieces and nephews.

Born in Concord, New Hampshire on May 14, 1947 he was the son of the late George H. and Arlene (Littlefield) Laramie. Dick was a graduate of Concord High School in New Hampshire. He received a Bachelor of Science degree, Civil Engineering, from the University of New Hampshire and a Master of Science degree, Civil Engineering, from M.I.T. He served in the U.S. Army Reserve Corps of Engineers following college, achieving the rank of Captain.

He was a Wakefield resident for the past 25 years and an active member of the PTO at West Ward and Walton Schools. Dick loved to play tennis and was a member of the Winchester Tennis League and the Bear Hill Golf Club (tennis). He participated in local tournaments, winning several. He and his family enjoyed summers on Martha's Vineyard at the family home in Edgartown.

Dick was an accomplished Water Resources Engineer. He began his professional career as a Staff Engineer at Metcalf & Eddy, Inc. in Boston in 1971 and joined Resource Analysis, Inc. of Cambridge, MA in 1973 as a Senior Engineer. When the firm was acquired by Camp Dresser & McKee, Inc. of Cambridge in 1979 he became an Associate of the firm and was promoted to Vice President in 1988. His technical interests and focus were in the field of water resources, specifically in the area of computer modeling of hydrology, hydraulics, stormwater, and drainage. He also had broad expertise in Massachusetts's water supply regulations helping many communities obtain reliable water supply. He performed dam safety evaluations for over 60 dams in New England. He specialized in the analysis of complicated hydraulic flow problems providing advice and solutions for hundreds of CDM projects in the U.S. and around the world. Among these projects was the hydraulic analysis for the water treatment plant and tunnels and pipelines for the water supply of metropolitan Boston. He worked on projects throughout the U.S. and in Brazil, Colombia, Argentina, Puerto Rico, Singapore, and Jordan. He was a professional engineer in Maine and Massachusetts. Mr. Laramie volunteered to serve on the Wakefield Conservation Commission for over 15 years and also served as Vice Chairman.

A funeral service will be held at the First Parish Congregational Church, Wakefield on Thursday at 11am. Relatives and friends may call at the McDonald Funeral Home, 19 Yale Ave., Wakefield on Wednesday from 4-8pm. Interment will be at Lakeside Cemetery in Wakefield.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Dana-Farber G.I Cancer Research, 44 Binney Street, Boston, MA 02115-6013.
