Richard Stevens

Richard Sherburne Stevens , 80, of Danbury, NH (formerly of Wakefield, MA) sadly passed away after a short illness on February 14th at this home in Florida, surrounded by family.

Born in Somerville, MA on March 30, 1933, he was the son of the late Mona A. Stevens Hennessey of Stoneham, MA.

Richard was a graduate of Stoneham High School, Class of 1951. He was employed by the Massachusetts Turnpike Authority for 22 years before retiring. He was the Past Exalted Ruler of the Saugus Lodge of Elks. His hobbies included bowling, traveling, and repairing antique clocks. He enjoyed his life in New Hampshire. He was an avid Boston sports fan and especially loved hockey.

Richard is survived by his beloved wife of 60 years, Claire Marie (Cassidy) Stevens of Wakefield, MA. In addition to his wife, he is survived by six children: Mary Ellen Kelloway and husband Leonard of Lynn; Linda Makarewicz and husband Kenneth; Cheryl Hurley and husband James; Richard C. Stevens , Kathleen Garofano and husband Kevin all of Wakefield, and Carolyn Tucker and husband Martin of Middleton, MA.

He leaves 12 grandchildren - Leonard Kelloway; Christine Hunt; Patricia Shiner and husband Kevin; Kendra Makarewicz; James Hurley and wife Renee; John Hurley and wife Diane; Shauna Hurley; Kevin Garofano and wife Michelle; Bryan Garofano; and Rachel, Caitlyn, and Lauren Tucker. In addition, he also leaves 8 great grandchildren.

His funeral will be held from the McDonald Funeral Home, 19 Yale Ave., Wakefield on Friday at 9am followed by a funeral mass in St. Joseph Church, 173 Albion St., Wakefield at 10 o'clock. A visitation for relatives and friends will be held at the funeral home on Thursday from 4 to 8 PM. Interment will be at St. Patrick Cemetery in Stoneham.
