Richard J. "Dick" Warchol, formerly of Wakefield, died peacefully at his Naples, Florida home on Saturday, Dec. 5, at the age of 85. Born on September 14, 1930, Dick leaves behind the love of his life, Barbara A. (Lynch), with whom he shared 57 years of marriage. He was the son of the late John J. and Irene M. (Carroll) Warchol.
Dick was a long-time member of St. Joseph Parish. He attended St. Joseph School and was a graduate of Wakefield High School, class of 1948. He proudly served as a member of the United States Marines' "Crash Crew" based in Cherry Point, North Carolina during the Korean War. He later earned a degree in chemical engineering from the University of New Hampshire. Dick was a founder of the former MWM Co. Inc., a distributor of commercial filters and equipment. After retiring, Dick and Barbara split their time between West Dennis, MA and Naples, Florida. Dick was an avid storyteller and was known by all who met him for his quick wit, ever-present smile, and his love of life and people.
In addition to Barbara, Dick also leaves behind his six children: Janice and her husband Patrick Glynn of Wakefield, Paula of Marblehead, John "Jack" of Wakefield, Joanne and her husband Scott Shaw of Wakefield, Michael and his wife Sarah (Emery), also of Wakefield, and Daniel and his wife Amy (Schulte) of Newburyport. He is also survived by nine grandchildren: Christopher, Kevin, and Elizabeth Glynn; Connor, Madison, and Ryan Shaw; Meghan and Caroline Warchol; and Alexa Warchol. Dick was predeceased by his close brother, Robert.
His funeral will be held from the McDonald Funeral Home, 19 Yale Ave., Wakefield on Friday at 10:30 a.m., followed by a funeral mass in St. Joseph Church, 173 Albion St., Wakefield at 11:30 a.m. Visitation for relatives and friends will be held at the funeral home on Thursday from 4-8 p.m. Interment will be held at Calvary Cemetery, Woburn.
